This Privacy Policy explains what information the Skipstone website, web app and mobile apps (together, "Skipstone") collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. Skipstone is provided by Skipstone ("we", "us"). If you have questions, contact us at our Contact page.
1. Information you give us
- Account: your name, email address and password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form), profile photo if you add one, your home currency, two-factor authentication settings if you turn it on, and the date you agreed to our Terms.
- Trips: everything you plan in Skipstone, such as destinations and dates, budgets, expenses, currency exchanges, flights, accommodation, agenda events, notes and photos, and the travel documents you upload to a trip (for example visas, tickets, bookings and insurance).
- Companions: details you add about people you travel with, such as their name, email, phone number, relationship to you, photo and travel documents (for example passport or visa scans and expiry dates). Please only add someone's details with their permission.
- Adventures stories: if you choose to share a city agenda, the title, text, events and photos you selected, and your first name if you chose to show it.
- Messages: anything you send us when you contact us.
2. Information collected automatically
- Sign-in and security: session cookies on the web, a sign-in token stored securely on your device in the mobile app, your IP address and browser or device type, used to keep you signed in, limit repeated sign-in attempts and protect accounts.
- Website analytics: if enabled, the public website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. It uses cookies. It is not used inside the web app or the mobile app.
The mobile app does not access your location, contacts, camera or microphone, and contains no advertising or third-party tracking. It accesses your photo library only when you choose a photo to upload, and only the photos you pick.
3. How we use your information
- To provide Skipstone: store and show your trips, budgets, documents and photos, and keep your account secure.
- To send service emails, such as account verification, password reset and invitation emails.
- To review and publish Adventures stories you submit.
- To answer your questions and handle problems with your account.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We don't sell your personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
4. Who we share it with
Only with service providers who help us run Skipstone, and only as much as they need:
- our hosting provider, which stores Skipstone's data and files;
- our email provider, to deliver service emails;
- Telegram, if you choose to sign in with Telegram (Telegram shares your Telegram ID and username with us);
- UI Avatars (ui-avatars.com), which receives your name to draw an initials picture when you don't have a profile photo;
- Google Analytics on the public website, if enabled;
- Open-Meteo, which receives the names of places in your trips (not who you are) so we can show them on your travel map.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others. Adventures stories you choose to publish are public on the Skipstone website.
5. How long we keep it
- We keep your information while your account exists. A deactivated account is kept until you come back or delete it.
- When you delete your account, it is closed straight away and all its data (trips, companions, documents, photos and stories) is permanently deleted after 30 days. You can restore the account by signing in during those 30 days.
- Backups and logs that may contain your data are removed on their normal schedule, after which the data can't be recovered.
6. Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information at any time in the app or on the web.
- Delete individual trips, photos, documents and stories, or deactivate or delete your whole account from your profile, in the app or on the web.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by contacting us at our Contact page.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as objecting to how we use your data or complaining to your data protection authority.
7. Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, optional two-factor authentication, access controls and private storage for travel documents. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong password, keep it to yourself, and consider turning on two-factor authentication in your profile.
8. International transfers
Skipstone's servers and service providers may be in countries other than yours. Where we transfer information, we take steps to keep it protected as described in this policy.
9. Children
Skipstone is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information through their own accounts. Travellers may add details of children travelling with them as companions; that information is controlled by the account holder. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Skipstone changes. We will change the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email about significant changes.
